Miraculous Coconut Oil

While shopping in Safeway, I came across a book entitled The Miracle of Coconut Oil. I am intrigued by alternative medicine. I try it out whenever I can. Paging through the book, I read claims that coconut oil reduces risk of atherosclerosis and related illnesses, reduces the risk of cancer, helps prevent bacterial, viral and fungal infections. Coconut oil supposedly supports the immune system and helps control diabetes. It has been shown to promote healthy metabolic function and therefore support weight loss. By assisting with the body's absorbtion of calcium, coconut oil helps to prevent osteoporosis. Extra virgin coconut oil also helps keep skin soft and smooth. After learning that coconut oil could reduce seizures, control my eczema, and cure my hypothyroidism, I located the nearest jar of extra virgin coconut oil and purchased it. I ingested a tablespoon of coconut oil per day and rubbed it on the cracks in the corner of my mouth.

I wish I could say that I never had a seizure, my hypothyroidism cleared up and it cured my eczema. The title would be true and we could all stop going to doctors and just eat coconut oil to make ourselves healthier.

I have had seizures, but I had them on days that I didn't take my medication and didn't eat coconut oil. The seizures that I have had were much milder. It didn't take me the entire day to recover from them. I can't attribute my seizure control or lack thereof entirely to coconut oil.

I have not had an outbreak of eczema. This has been somewhat of a miracle for me. I don't know if I can attribute it to taking coconut oil or not, but the skin on my fingers, which always seemed to break out and be itchy at the drop of a hat has not had even one red patch. My cuticles have grown back in where they were missing when I was having frequent eczema outbreaks.

My angular chelitis, cracks in the mouth corners, did not clear up within the first few days of taking coconut oil. I went to the doctor and got my usual prescription. I don't know if it is coincidence or not, but I have not had an outbreak since last year. My lips had a tendency to crack at the corners from excess saliva or contact with certain foods.  I read online that it was due to a fungal infection. The prescription my doctor wrote for me was good at clearing it up, but I have been outbreak free in the last year. I don't even know where the tube of ointment the doctor prescribed for me is right now.

Hypothyroidism is another story altogether. Last year my doctor increased my synthroid dosage around the time that I started eating coconut oil. I was experiencing what I thought were hypo symptoms last December and went to get my blood tested only to discover that I was in the hyper range and I needed to take less medication. So, my body may be on track to producing the correct amount of thyroid, but time will tell. In the meantime, I'll keep cooking with coconut oil.

It's important that it is natural virgin coconut oil and not the refined (copra) stuff as this will be ineffective.
